About People Places

People Places is a Virginia-based nonprofit child welfare agency created to make healthy family living possible for troubled children who have been removed from their own homes. The agency's mission is to create effective community-based treatment services for troubled children and youth as an alternative to residential placement.

Founded in 1973, People Places, Inc. was the first therapeutic foster care (TFC) program in Virginia and one of the pioneers in the nation. The agency's mission is to create effective community-based treatment services for troubled children and youth as an alternative to residential placement.

People Places is a private, not-for-profit Licensed Child Placing Agency serving children and youth between the ages of infancy and 21 years and focusing primarily on abused/neglected youngesters with moderate to severe emotional and behavior disorders.


A Continuum of Therapeutic Services

We have grown to include a continuum of therapeutic and educational services offered through three office locations - Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville.

We offer an array of children services to further our mission including supported adoption, group and individual counseling, Pygmalion School and independent living assistance. We are also active in providing technical assistance, training/consultation and program materials to sister agencies throughout North America.
