Text Box: Elsie and Pernell are an African-American couple living in Fluvanna County with their two children, Kendra, age 15 and Kendrell, age 14.  They have one dog, a Jack Russell terrier, named Trouble.   Elsie works as a corrections officer at the Women’s Prison in Fluvanna while Pernell owns a landscaping business. They enjoy playing sports, going out to eat, going to the movies, traveling and spending time with family and friends.  They attend Third Liberty and New Hope Baptist Church on alternating Sundays.  They are interested in providing foster to adopText Box: tion services for any child under the age of 14 including sibling groups.  

Veronica is a single Caucasian female living in Albemarle County.  She has a cat named Scooter.  She works as a Senior Benefits Program Specialist for Albemarle County Department of Social Services.  She enjoys needlepoint, reading, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, playing computer games and attending church.  She attends Calvary Chapel where she sings in the choir, attends singles ministry activities and works with youth in the church.  She is an active aunt who attends her nieces’ and nephews’ school activities.  She

is interested in becoming a foster to adopt parent for a Caucasian or Hispanic child between the ages of 5-8 including same sex sibling groups.

 

Kathy is a single Caucasian female who resides in Greene County. She has an adult daughter and grandson who live in Louisiana.  Kathy works as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service.   She has been a certified therapeutic foster parent since 1995 and has worked with challenging teenage females. Kathy is now interested as well in adopting a child between the ages of 3-6, although she would consider children up to age 9 including sibling groups. She enjoys listening to music, gardening, traveling, sewing and spending time with friends and family.

Text Box: Lisa & Samuel, a Caucasian couple with three grown children from previous marriages, are interested in adoption as a way to continue parenting together. They applied to adopt a child from Russia, but became disenchanted with the long delay (over a year). Lisa is a quiet, reserved and caring woman. She is a homemaker, though she has worked outside the home in the past. Samuel enjoys woodworking in his spare time. They enjoy day sightseeing trips to D.C., hiking and following JMU sports. 

Elizabeth and Wesley, a Caucasian couple with an elementary school-aged son, live at Massanutten where they have access to recreational resources.

Meet Some of Our New Families…

2004 saw the certification of 36 new Teaching Parent foster and adoptive families. Here are a few of the most recent additions to the People Places’ family of families…

Alexandria & Michael, an African-American couple, live in Verona. Alexandria is at home full time and is a quiet, caring woman. Michael is a reserved but very committed family man and father. He enjoys teaching children and teens through involvement in auto repair and home improvement projects to equip them with practical life skills. Alexandria and Michael have a daughter attending Howard University, another who is a high school senior, and a 16 year old adopted son. Alexandria and Michael have foster parenting experience and hope to work with younger children.

 

Becky & Steve are a Caucasian couple living in Augusta County a few miles from Greenville. They have two adult daughters. Becky is an R.N. working with the Hope Cancer Center in Fishersville. Steve is on disability due to a back injury on the job several years ago. Becky is outgoing and  friendly; Steve is quiet and reserved. They hope to continue parenting through adoption.

Chris & Elizabeth, a Caucasian couple with 7 children, live in a new, attractive log home they built west of Harrisonburg. Chris works for Banta Books and Elizabeth is a homemaker, with experience in restaurant/hotel management. She is very organized. She offers seminars to young single mothers on managing a household. Chris and Elizabeth have structured their lives to enable them to have quality time with their children, to read, engage in sports and participate in church activities. Elizabeth home schools their children. They will serve as Teaching Foster Parents.
